Magento – #1 ecommerce platform!

Opace, one of the West Midland’s leading Magento web development agencies welcome the ongoing growth in the ecommerce platform’s popularity and figures which confirm Magento as the #1 ecommerce platform.

Last year survey of e-commerce sites in the Alexa top million has found that Magento is by far the most popular e-commerce solution which is only likely to grow in 2014 and beyond, especially with the long awaited planned Magento 2.0 release, scheduled for 2015.

Alexa Internet Inc tracks the web use of millions of internet users and gathers information about the sites they visit. The analysis of their database revealed that Magento is used on 20 percent of e-commerce sites internationally. Magento usage has rocketed recently. The number of sites deploying Magento increased by 21 percent over the previous quarter, dwarfing the growth rate of its nearest competitor, Zen Cart, which grew by only seven percent.

Leading brands such as Men’s Health, Samsung, Olympus, and Paul Smith use Magento to power their websites as do local e-commerce retailers such Ironmongery Online who are one of Opace’s own clients, based in West Midlands.

Magento offers an ‘open-source’ platform that allows companies to easily develop e-commerce websites, and organisations like Opace help businesses to customise and maximise their online sales activity. David Bryan, founder of Opace, said this week “Last years figures are no surprise, and confirm what our clients are telling us: Magento is fast-becoming the ‘go to’ platform for businesses who are looking to leverage the boom in online sales. The vast majority of clients can utilise Magento’s Community Edition – it’s easy to use, offers powerful marketing and SEO tools and its FREE so all types of business can take advantage of the move to online internet shopping.”

Opace was founded in 2008 with the aim of delivering exceptional web and internet marketing solutions that deliver tangible results for their clients. David continued by saying: “I realised that some agencies offer brilliant technical solutions but very little service; others were the reverse. I believed it was possible to deliver the right solutions with outstanding service that delivered great results”. Opace have grown to a team of ten experienced consultants who deliver creative web-based marketing solutions that have helped their clients to make the most of new technologies and web marketing opportunities.

David continued “Magento’s success means that there is a whole world wide community offering advice, support and developing apps and plug-ins to improve the functionality of the e-commerce platform – and help keep it future proof.”

We then spoke to the lead Magento developer at Opace, Rob Bryan who continued to talk about the Magento 2.0 release planned for 2015 “The current in-development version is only at a point where the existing functionality from Magento 1 is being replicated along with a few tweaks and a new codebase. Eventually it will match and exceed the existing functionality of Magento 1 and provide a far superior user experience. Currently, the main changes include a fully-responsive default shop theme and a re-skin of the admin panel with some minor changes to the structure of the back end”.
